Claude Fable 5.5 and GPT-6.2 Astra: the November Leak Watch
Two days into November, the next-generation names from Anthropic and OpenAI surfaced at the same time — with zero official announcements. On the Anthropic side: a "Mythos 5.5" string in the website's own HTML, and a claude-fable-5-5 entry with full pricing that lived in LiteLLM's public config for about four hours. On the OpenAI side: gpt-6.2-astra appearing in Codex usage stats, an API response and a terminal screenshot — every one of them a community self-report. This brief verifies what can be verified, prices what a third-party trace suggests, and keeps the rest labeled as exactly what it is: rumor.
Independently verified: LiteLLM commit 2f3ccbe7c7 (Oct 14, 12:14 UTC) contained a complete azure_ai/claude-fable-5-5 entry — $10 input / $50 output per 1M, cache read $0.25, cache write $12.50 ($20 above-1hr), 1M input / 128K output, deprecation date 2027-12-05, plus search-context billing. It vanished from the file by the next commits we sampled (16:17 UTC the same day) and is absent from the current main branch. We also verified the negative side: anthropic.com/mythos now returns 404 and the Claude page carries no 5.5 string.
Not verifiable: the Mythos 5.5 site residue (reported seen six times, then scrubbed), the MLflow catalog remnant, four Fable 5.5 demo videos, and every GPT-6.2 Astra sighting — all community reports, none with prompts, logs or source.
Builder takeaway: nothing here is purchasable or routable today. The LiteLLM trace reads as a natural Fable-line upgrade — identical to Fable 5.1's current $10/$50/$0.25 — so if it lands, budget impact is a context-window question, not a price shock. Do not plan production on screenshots.
The evidence, graded (Nov 2)
- The LiteLLM trace — verified by direct read. In LiteLLM's
model_prices_and_context_window.json, commit 2f3ccbe7c7 (2026-10-14 12:14 UTC) listedazure_ai/claude-fable-5-5: $10/1M input, $50/1M output, cache-read $0.25/1M, cache-creation $12.50/1M ($20 for above-1hr cache), 1,000,000 max input / 128,000 max output tokens, deprecation 2027-12-05, and per-query search-context pricing. By the commit sampled at 16:17 UTC the entry was gone; today's main branch carries fable-5 and fable-5-1 only, and no gpt-6.2 string anywhere. - The Anthropic site residue — reported, then scrubbed. Per the APPSO roundup, on Nov 1 a user found "Mythos 5.5" in the Mythos product page's hidden H1 and image alt text; another counted six occurrences while the page copy still described Mythos 5.1; a third watched Anthropic remove it. Our direct checks confirm the aftermath:
anthropic.com/mythosis a 404 and the Claude homepage contains no "Fable 5.5" or "Mythos 5.5" string. - Where the names sit in the product line. Mythos is the tightly restricted high-risk-research line; Fable is the same base model with safety hardening for general availability (APPSO's framing). Our prior coverage anchors the ladder: the 5.5 generation is officially out for Sonnet/Haiku/Opus (family rollout), Opus 5.5 sits at $4/$20, and Fable 5.1 holds the $10/$50 tier with cache reads cut to $0.25 (cache-economics brief). A Fable 5.5 at the leaked numbers is a same-price successor, not a repricing.
- The Fable 5.5 demos — unverified by construction. Four X videos circulated: a 36-second 3D-scene comparison claiming Fable 5.5 beats Opus 5.5 on continuous animation; a 92-second first-person Minecraft-style world claimed built from one prompt in 1–2 hours; an interactive zero-shot historical sailboat; a Three.js car configurator. None shipped prompts, call logs or source. Treat as capability folklore until one is reproduced with receipts.
- GPT-6.2 Astra — screenshots all the way down. Reported sightings: a Codex usage split of ~80% GPT-6 Astra / 19.8% "GPT-6.2 Astra"; an API response with
response.model: gpt-6.2-astra; a terminal invocation after a Codex CLI upgrade showinggpt-6.2-astra mediumand a "1M window". Community verdicts split — one camp says it beats Opus 5.5 on design and coding, another says it trails Opus 5.5, let alone a rumored Fable 5.5. OpenAI has listed the model nowhere; a Nov-1 official video ("Many futures are possible. Which will you create?") fed the speculation without confirming anything. - The November pile-up. The leaks land two days after Google DeepMind's Gemini 4 Carbon (Oct 28), amid concurrent rumors of Qwen4, GLM-5.5 and Hy4 — a coordinated-looking flagship cycle that APPSO reads as the usual pre-launch trace-or-tease ambiguity. Timing guesses for the Anthropic drop range from this week to mid-November.
Verification on Nov 2, 2026: LiteLLM git history and current branch read directly; anthropic.com/mythos and /claude fetched; OpenAI public channels checked for any gpt-6.2 listing (none). Demo videos and Codex screenshots are reported, not reproduced.
Context: what a real Fable 5.5 would mean for the price ladder
If the LiteLLM entry becomes an official rate card, the Western ladder reads: Haiku tiered from $0.10/$0.50, Sonnet $2/$10, Opus 5.5 $4/$20, Fable 5.5 $10/$50 — all 1M-context. That leaves the Fable tier at 2.5x Opus for the top general-availability slot, unchanged from 5.1. The cheaper structure for agents stays the same lever our Fable 5.1 brief documented: cache reads at $0.25 are what made agentic workloads ~45% cheaper, and the leaked entry keeps them there.
Against the Chinese shelf the gap is structural, not incremental: DeepSeek's V4.1-Flash serves $0.22/$0.66 off-peak with open weights, GLM-5.3 holds $1.40/$4.40, and even the rumored Fable's cache-read price alone is within 2x of full-price Chinese flagship input. That is the 6–18x bracket our earlier coverage measured, unchanged by a rumor (comparison table).
The GPT-6.2 side matters here mainly as a pacing signal: when the Western top tier iterates, the Chinese relays reprice within weeks — see GPT-6 Astra's China open-weights answer and the tri-model week brief. Watch the response, not the screenshot.
What this means for builders
Nothing to route yet: no official model id exists on any Anthropic or OpenAI endpoint, and no third-party relay — including this site's future service — should be trusted with a "fable-5-5" or "gpt-6.2" alias until a vendor rate card backs it. If you manage budgets, note the one actionable number: a same-price Fable successor with a 1M window would shift cost only through context growth, and cache-heavy agent designs stay the winning shape.
If you are benchmarking ahead of time, the honest protocol is the same one we apply here: screenshots are not evidence, gateway configs are traces not announcements, and a demo without logs is marketing. When the official pages land, we will publish the verified rate card within the day — as we did for the 5.5 family and Opus 5.5.
Four signals would flip this page from watch to launch coverage: an official Anthropic pricing row for fable-5-5, the LiteLLM entry returning to main, any GPT-6.2 listing on OpenAI's models page, or one of the demos reproduced with call logs. Any of them lands, this page updates.
Access from outside China — and the usual disclaimer
This site tracks Chinese model APIs for international builders: official endpoints, pricing and open-weights status, with the Western frontier as the comparison rail. The comparison table holds the live ladder; the cheapest-API guide holds the budget floor.
Independence disclaimer: ChinaModelAPI is an independent information site, not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI or any vendor. The LiteLLM entry is quoted from public git history; site residue, demos and Codex sightings are attributed community reports; nothing here is a routing, availability or pricing promise.

FAQ (2026)
What is this news, exactly?
A leak watch, not a launch. Next-generation names (Claude Mythos/Fable 5.5, GPT-6.2 Astra) surfaced via site residue, a third-party gateway config and user screenshots. Neither vendor has announced anything.
What would Fable 5.5 cost?
$10 input / $50 output per 1M with $0.25 cache reads — per a LiteLLM entry that lived about four hours in git history. Identical to Fable 5.1's current pricing, so a successor at the same rate, not a repricing. Not an official rate card.
What is Mythos?
Anthropic's tightly restricted line for high-risk research areas such as cybersecurity and biology; Fable is the same base model with safety hardening for general availability. The "Mythos 5.5" string appeared in Anthropic's site HTML and was removed.
How strong is the GPT-6.2 Astra evidence?
Screenshots only: a Codex usage split, an API response field and a terminal invocation, all self-reported. No official listing exists anywhere, and community quality verdicts contradict each other.
Can I call these models today?
No. No official endpoint lists them, and no relay should expose such an alias without a vendor rate card behind it. Terminal invocations reported by users are not a routable product.
Why cover Western rumors here?
Because the repricing loop is global: when the Western top tier moves, Chinese relays respond within weeks. This site's ladder keeps the verified Chinese prices the rumors are measured against.
